Energy Information Program [PDF 397 KB]
The National Energy Board is an independent federal agency that regulates several aspects of Canada's energy industry. Our purpose is to promote safety and security, environmental
protection and efficient energy infrastructure and markets in the Canadian public interest[*] within the mandate set by Parliament in the regulation of pipelines, energy development and trade. The National Energy Board is also responsible for all physical activities related to oil and gas exploration and operations in the North. Our vision is to be an active, effective and knowledgeable partner in the responsible development of Canada's energy sector for the benefit of Canadians. Providing Canadians with reliable, unbiased information and analysis on energy matters supports this goal.
To support these activities, the National Energy Board monitors a variety of data and information under the Energy Information Program. Much of our market and supply analysis is available to the public, both through our Library and on the National Energy Board website at www.neb-one.gc.ca. Products available from the National Energy Board include:
Canadians have an increasing need for reliable, unbiased and easily accessible information on our energy system. In response to this need, the National Energy Board offers a website section dedicated to providing Canadians with timely information about energy commodities, focused on pricing and factors affecting pricing. The website also details how Canadian energy markets work, including a summary of each industry in Canada, frequently asked questions (FAQs) and helpful website links. Energy Pricing Information for Canadian Consumers can be found Energy Information - Pricing.
Summer and Winter Energy OutlooksThe Board presents energy outlooks on demand, supply, and industry trends seasonally, both to the public and media. Outlooks inform Canadians on the factors and trends impacting the summer and winter energy markets. Our energy outlook presentations and fact sheets are available on the Energy Information section of our website, under Energy Information - Energy Outlooks.
As part of its regulatory mandate, the National Energy Board monitors the Canadian supply and demand scenarios for all energy commodities including oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids and electricity. Energy Market Assessments address specific issues related to Canadian energy markets, such as the deliverability of natural gas, the outlook on oil sands production, and emerging technologies for power production. The National Energy Board publication, Canada's Energy Future, serves as a comprehensive energy supply and demand outlook for 2005 to 2030. These publications are available in hard copy through our library, as well as on our website, under Energy Information - Energy Reports.
The National Energy Board compiles a vast collection of statistics, related to its regulatory role in the oil, gas and electricity industries. On our website, you can find monthly, quarterly and annual data on commodity exports and imports, commodity inventories, as well as statistics on oil and gas drilling, and geophysical and geological operations in frontier areas. National Energy Board statistics can be found under Energy Information - Statistics.
Speeches and presentations by National Energy Board Members and senior staff are provided at many Canadian and international conferences and association meetings. The National Energy Board publishes the content of these speeches and presentations for public viewing on our website under Publications - Speeches and Presentations.
The National Energy Board acts as an information resource for Canadians, recognizing that energy issues play a large role in Canadian lives and the economy. For further information on the National Energy Board's Energy Information Program, please contact us or send your request to:
